World Milk Day is observed every year on June 1 to recognise the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector. On this day, the benefits of milk and dairy products are actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people.
World Milk Day is intended to provide an opportunity to bring attention to activities that are connected with the dairy sector.
On World Milk Day, people can start a Twitter chat about dairy, organise a photo contest to select the most photogenic dairy cow, create videos of dairy farmers and cows, and participate in a recipe contest.
People can use the World Milk Day platform to raise awareness of the messaging and action towards Dairy Net Zero.
On World Milk Day, individuals can talk about the important contributions of the dairy sector, good food, health and nutrition, farmers working for their communities, the land and their animals, sustainability practices in the dairy sector, and how dairy contributes to economic development and livelihoods.
This year, the celebration for World Milk Day started with the ‘Enjoy Dairy Rally’ from May 29 through May 31.
The Pathways to Dairy Net Zero initiative is improving production and process efficiency in the dairy sector, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions from the dairy sector, and building resilient dairy value chains towards sustainable and inclusive recovery.
