Govt Expands Dairy Infrastructure & Digital Reforms

The Government of India has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the dairy and livestock sector through expanded infrastructure, veterinary healthcare, digital livestock management and farmer-focused support schemes. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated that there is no proposal to introduce a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for milk, with milk procurement prices continuing to be determined by dairy cooperatives and private dairies based on market conditions.

The government highlighted the ongoing implementation of flagship programmes, including the National Livestock Mission (NLM), Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) and Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), which support entrepreneurship, breed improvement, disease control, veterinary infrastructure and affordable veterinary medicines.

In Maharashtra alone, 113 AHIDF projects worth ₹4,700.13 crore have been approved, with ₹123.46 crore released as interest subvention. The initiatives also promote digital livestock management, improved veterinary services and stronger dairy infrastructure, reflecting the government's long-term strategy to enhance productivity, improve farmer incomes and build a more resilient dairy and livestock ecosystem.
