Uruguay's dairy exports increased 2% year-on-year during the first half of 2026, supported by higher shipment volumes of milk powder, despite lower international prices for key dairy commodities. According to Uruguay XXI, the country exported dairy products worth US$391 million between January and June 2026, compared with the same period last year.
Milk powder remained the country's leading dairy export, accounting for around 70% of total dairy export value. Although export prices softened, increased shipment volumes helped offset the decline, allowing the sector to maintain overall export growth. Brazil remained Uruguay's largest dairy export destination, followed by Algeria and China, highlighting the continued importance of diversified international markets.
Industry analysts note that while global dairy prices remain under pressure, stable production and resilient export demand have enabled Uruguay's dairy industry to sustain positive trade performance. The results underline the sector's ability to balance market volatility through volume growth while reinforcing Uruguay's position as a competitive exporter in the global dairy market.
