TTD Chairman: KMF Supplied 62% of Ghee, Allegations False
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has officially dismissed claims of preferential treatment to Indapur Dairy in supplying ghee for prasadam, clarifying that Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) supplied a majority — 62 % of the temple’s total ghee requirement — under routine procurement. TTD Chairman B.R. Naidu described allegations directed at Indapur Dairy as “completely false and misleading,” underlining that proper tendering and quality checks were followed for all consignments.
In a statement issued after political controversy erupted around ghee quality used in prasadam, Naidu emphasised that Indapur Dairy was only one of many suppliers and received no special treatment. The temple’s procurement committee has repeatedly followed transparent bidding and quality compliance checks, including third-party testing for purity and adherence to safety standards. The chairman reiterated that TTD’s procurement process is merit-based, not influenced by political or regional considerations.
Official data cited by the TTD shows that KMF’s supply accounted for the largest share of ghee requirements, while several other licensed suppliers contributed the remainder under standard contractual terms. Naidu also stressed that quality testing for ghee and prasadam ingredients is routinely conducted through accredited laboratories to ensure purity and food safety for millions of devotees who consume TTD offerings annually.
The clarification comes amid a broader debate over the governance of institutional food supplies, where quality assurance, cold-chain integrity and procurement transparency are under increasing public scrutiny. Dairy sector experts say that clear communication from procuring entities like the TTD is essential to maintain industry confidence and prevent misinformation from spreading, especially when large volumes of dairy products are involved.
