Keeping the upcoming Holi-Dhuleti festival in view, South Gujarat’s leading cooperative, Sumul Dairy, has announced an increase in milk procurement prices for both cow and buffalo milk. The decision is expected to benefit around 2.5 lakh cattle rearers in Surat and Tapi districts, boosting their annual income by over ₹50 crore.

₹20 hike for cow milk, ₹10 for buffalo milk

Sumul management has raised the procurement price of cow milk by ₹20 per kg fat, increasing it from ₹830 to ₹850 per kg fat. Similarly, the procurement price of buffalo milk has been increased by ₹10 per kg fat, from ₹870 to ₹880 per kg fat. The revised rates have come into immediate effect.

Milk Type Old Price (₹/kg fat) New Price (₹/kg fat)
Cow Milk 830 850
Buffalo Milk 870 880

₹50 crore annual boost to farmers’ income

According to the dairy management, the price hike will generate an additional annual income of over ₹50 crore for cattle rearers in Surat and Tapi districts. On a monthly basis, farmers are collectively expected to receive around ₹4 crore more, providing a significant boost to the rural economy.

With Holi festivities underway, the announcement has brought cheer to nearly 2.5 lakh dairy farmers associated with milk mandalis in the two districts. Several farmers have described the hike as a “Holi bonus,” stating that it will improve their standard of living and further strengthen the rural economy.
