KMF to Launch Lactose-Free & Buffalo Milk by Sept

By DairyNews7x7•Published on August 28, 2025

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), under its Nandini brand, is set to diversify its product portfolio with the launch of lactose-free milk, buffalo milk, and protein-rich variants. These offerings, currently in trial, are expected to hit the market by the end of September as part of KMF’s strategy to align with evolving consumer preferences. Additionally, the federation is developing protein shakes, sugar-free sweets, and at least ten savoury items to cater to health-conscious and younger demographics.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), known for its popular Nandini milk products, is gearing up to introduce new offerings—lactose-free milk, buffalo milk, and protein-enriched variants—to its growing lineup. These expansions aim to meet shifting consumer tastes and bolster the brand’s competitive edge in the dairy sector.

KMF officials highlighted that there is strong demand for dairy products tailored to lactose-intolerant individuals, while buffalo milk remains especially popular in North Karnataka. The federation is currently scaling up procurement to support the introduction of these new variants.

Beyond traditional milk, KMF’s research division is also working on innovative items like protein shakes and sugar-free sweets, targeting health-conscious and younger audiences. In total, at least ten new savoury products are in development to enhance the Nandini product range.

The trial phase for these offerings is already underway, with commercial rollout expected by the end of September.

Industry Insight

KMF’s strategy reflects a broader shift in the dairy industry toward specialty and health-oriented products. As lactose intolerance and lifestyle-related dietary trends grow, demand for alternatives like lactose-free and protein-enhanced milk is rising. Incorporating buffalo milk also allows KMF to tap into regional preferences that favor its richer nutritional profile.

Timely market entry, backed by robust procurement and supply strategies, will be essential for KMF to successfully capitalize on these emerging consumer segments. The initiative underscores the federation’s agility in aligning product development with evolving market dynamics, helping maintain its leadership in a competitive landscape.
