Himachal’s Milkfed Cuts Retail Milk Price by Rs3–Rs4/L

Himachal Pradesh’s leading dairy cooperative, Milkfed, has announced a reduction in milk prices — dropping rates by ₹3 to ₹4 per litre. Loose cow-milk will now sell at ₹51 per litre, down from ₹55, while packaged “Him Gauri” milk has been priced at ₹55 per litre, reduced from ₹58.

The price cut comes soon after a June 2025 increase, when cow-milk was raised to ₹51/L and buffalo-milk to ₹61/L under a new Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme aimed at benefiting dairy farmers.

According to Milkfed’s announcement, the price reduction reflects the benefit of revised tax regime and GST rationalisation being passed on directly to consumers. This move is seen as a relief for households across Himachal Pradesh, especially in the context of rising inflation and cost pressures.

Milkfed procures milk locally from numerous cattle-rearers across the state, processing and distributing it through its network of milk-bars and retail outlets. The decision to cut prices may prompt other private and regional dairies in HP to reconsider their retail pricing strategy — potentially resulting in broader consumer gains if competition ensues.

For now, prices of other dairy products in the state — such as ghee, butter, paneer and cheese — remain unchanged, indicating that the revision strictly applies to liquid milk.
