Functional Dairy Foods Faculty Training Begins at BHU, Varanasi
A 21-day advanced faculty training programme titled “Functional Dairy Foods: From Concept to Commercialisation” has started at the Department of Dairy Science & Food Technology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), with sponsorship from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). This programme brings together 15 scientists, assistant professors and academicians from ICAR-recognised institutes, state agricultural universities and allied institutions across India, aiming to strengthen academic excellence and applied research capabilities in functional dairy foods.
The initiative was inaugurated by key academic leaders including Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi (BHU Vice Chancellor), Prof. Sujit Kumar Dubey (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies) and Prof. Raj Kumar Duary (Head, DSFT & CAFT Director), reflecting institutional emphasis on bridging dairy science fundamentals with innovation and industry needs.
The programme’s curriculum includes expert lectures, laboratory demonstrations, group discussions and insights into recent advancements in dairy processing and new product development, designed to enhance faculty expertise in translating basic dairy science into commercially relevant functional food products. These efforts align with broader academic and industry goals to nurture capacity for innovation, value addition and technology-led growth in the dairy sector.
