FSSAI Seizes ₹35 Lakh Adulterated Ghee from Rajkot Dairy Unit

By DairyNews7x7•Published on August 27, 2025

Under its Special Ghee Surveillance Drive, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) seized approximately 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee, valued at ₹35 lakhs, from M/s Korova Milk Product Private Limited, a dairy unit in Rajkot, Gujarat . Initial samples—sent to an FSSAI-notified laboratory—tested sub-standard, revealing adulteration with vegetable fat, which directly violated FSS Regulations, 2011 .

Despite being given a one-month window to appeal, the dairy operator did not respond. Consequently, during a follow-up inspection on 20 August 2025, all stocks—both ingredients and finished goods—were seized, and fresh samples were sent for further testing . The Central Licensing Authority is now poised to initiate further legal and regulatory action, pending final lab results .

FSSAI reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on food adulteration, emphasizing that consumers have a right to safe, unadulterated food, and any violations are dealt with strictly under the FSS Act .

Industry Insight

This seizure underscores the urgent need for robust quality compliance across India's dairy value chain. While regulations target adulteration, such incidents risk tampering with consumer trust and can harm the broader reputation of dairy products. Strengthening traceability, promoting frequent surveillance, and training dairy businesses on compliance are critical areas for proactive action. Co-operatives, producers, and industry stakeholders should collaborate with FSSAI to ensure transparency while safeguarding farmers’ interests.
