Akshayakalpa to Invest Rs 200 Crore in Maharashtra Dairy

Akshayakalpa Organic, India’s first certified organic dairy company, is entering Maharashtra with a major expansion plan worth ₹200 crore. The company will set up a new dairy plant at Mawal, between Pune and Mumbai, which is expected to become operational within the next two years. This move marks the company’s third major production hub after Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, signalling its ambition to scale beyond South India.

In the initial phase, Akshayakalpa will supply organic milk to Maharashtra by transporting it from its existing clusters in Karnataka and Hyderabad, ensuring quality consistency until local production begins. Meanwhile, the company has already identified around 150 farmers in Maharashtra who are undergoing a three-year organic conversion program, after which the state will have its own certified organic milk supply by 2028. Akshayakalpa follows a regenerative farming approach, investing nearly ₹80 lakh per farm to build resilient, chemical-free dairy systems.

The company posted ₹363 crore in revenue for FY25 and expects to double turnover in three years, driven by premium milk, organic curd, butter, cheese, and specialized nutrition products. It recently launched high-protein milk and paneer, tapping into the rapidly rising consumer demand for clean-label, protein-rich foods. With rising health awareness, especially among millennials and young parents, Akshayakalpa’s subscriber-based direct-to-home model has helped it secure strong brand loyalty in metros and tier-1 cities.

For Maharashtra, the entry of Akshayakalpa could reshape the premium dairy market currently dominated by conventional cooperatives and private labels. By introducing an organic farmer-centric model, the company expects to create long-term income stability for smallholders while meeting urban consumers’ shift toward chemical-free, ethically sourced food. The expansion aligns with India’s broader push toward sustainable agriculture, and if successful, Maharashtra may become one of the country’s largest organic dairy clusters by the end of the decade.
