Gujarat’s first dedicated Gaumutra (cow urine) dairy in Abala village of Bhabhar is emerging as a new model for rural income generation, organic farming and sustainable dairy-linked agriculture. The facility, inaugurated under the leadership of Banas Dairy chairman and Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, has the capacity to process up to 10,000 litres of cow urine daily into liquid organic fertilizer.
According to officials associated with the project, the plant purchases cow urine from local cattle rearers worth around ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 every day, creating an additional source of income for rural households and encouraging cattle rearing in the region. Research conducted through modern laboratory systems at the facility reportedly enables processing and separation of usable components, with the remaining material blended with herbal ingredients to manufacture liquid organic fertilizer for farmers.
The initiative aims to support organic farming adoption while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. Project representatives said the dairy is also expected to generate local employment opportunities and strengthen the rural circular economy by linking dairy farming, cattle care and sustainable agriculture. Gujarat’s cooperative dairy ecosystem, led by institutions such as Banas Dairy and GCMMF, continues to expand beyond conventional milk production into technology, organic farming and rural sustainability initiatives.
