Shares of major Indian dairy companies surged after Amul and Mother Dairy announced a ₹2 per litre increase in milk prices effective May 14, 2026, signaling improved revenue visibility and stronger margin expectations for the dairy sector. Investors reacted positively as the latest price revision is expected to help dairy companies offset rising procurement, feed, transportation and packaging costs.
Following the announcement, dairy-related stocks gained up to 4% during trading sessions. Parag Milk Foods rose nearly 4%, while Hatsun Agro Product and Heritage Foods also witnessed strong buying interest. Market analysts believe the coordinated milk price hikes by India’s leading dairy players could improve profitability across the organized dairy sector in the coming quarters.
Amul stated that the ₹2 per litre increase translates to only about 3–4% rise in consumer prices, remaining below average food inflation levels. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) added that rising cattle feed, fuel, logistics and operational costs have significantly increased milk production expenses over the past year. At the same time, higher consumer prices are expected to support better milk procurement payments for dairy farmers.
Industry experts noted that milk price hikes generally have a positive impact on listed dairy companies because branded dairy businesses are often able to pass increased costs to consumers while protecting operating margins. Companies with strong value-added dairy portfolios such as cheese, paneer, curd, ice cream and protein products may benefit further as demand in premium categories remains resilient. Analysts also expect regional dairy brands and private processors to announce similar price revisions in the coming weeks, potentially triggering broader price recalibration across India’s dairy market. However, they cautioned that sustained milk price inflation could eventually impact urban consumption demand if household food budgets remain under pressure.
