Irish milk prices among lowest in Europe: Rabobank

Milk prices paid to dairy farmers in Ireland are currently among the lowest in Europe, according to a new analysis by Rabobank, which warned that dairy producers across the continent are facing significant pressure due to weak milk and dairy commodity prices. The bank’s researchers highlighted that falling dairy product values in global markets have pushed farmgate milk prices downward, leaving Irish suppliers particularly exposed.
Recent data shows that the unweighted average Irish milk price dropped steadily from €50.08 per 100kg in January to €39.17 per 100kg by October, with reductions of two cents or more per month since August. Analysts attribute the decline largely to weaker commodity markets and surplus milk supplies entering the market.
Rabobank also cautioned that unless a supply shock limits excess milk, the sector could face prolonged weak pricing through mid-to-late 2026, placing further pressure on dairy farmer margins and potentially influencing future milk production decisions.
